In Monaco this week Ireland won the triple crown, not on the field, but at the World Rugby Awards, winning the Team, Player (Johnny Sexton) and Coach (Joe Schmidt) of the Year awards. A fantastic achievement and truly deserved. As a scrum half, I personally would of loved to see Faf De Klerk win the player award, however their is no doubting Sexton truly deserved it.
Sexton, who was unable to speak after losing his voice, became the first Irishman to win the men’s individual accolade award since Keith Wood in 2001, and the first non-New Zealander since 2011. About time!
Apparently its just 66 days till Ireland meet England in Dublin…and as I said my Irish wife its around 66 and 15 hours before I’m sleeping on the sofa, whatever the score.
Well done Ireland, enjoy the triple crown…England, Farrell and Jones are on your tails!
