Congratulations to Kobe Kobelco Steelers who have won the Top League final in Japan.
Suntory Sungoliath were thumped 55-5 by Dan Carter’s Steelers at the Prince Chichibu Memorial Rugby Ground.
It certainly had a battle of champs about the match, as Carter lined up opposite old foe Matt Giteau at 10, in what looked like a rather one sided match . This is the the Steelers first League win since the Top League season started in 2003-04
Steelers headcoach Dave Dillon said: “You get what you prepare for and our preparation was awesome, especially leading into this game.”
Dan Carter is beyond doubt one of the best number 10’s of his generation and his foray into Japanese rugby has been one of wonder and delight for the Kiwi, who is loving his new life in Kobe.
The Kobe team has certainly seen some positive changes in the last few years, with not only New Zealand legend Carter joining the outfit, but also Tom Franklin, Hayden Parker and centre Richard Buckman. With All Black halfback Andy Ellis and Adam Ashley-Cooper already at the club, Kobe has just been too hot to handle in the league.
Tries: Fraser 2, Yamanaka 2, Arita, Ashley-Cooper, Franklin, Hattingh
Cons: Carter 5
Want to see how Kobe and in particular Dan Carter have developed, here’s a match from earlier in the season…
