After a few months of weighing up my options for accommodation in Japan, I’ve finally opted for a home-stay venue. As you might have read, I was looking into a pod hotel…but the lure of staying with a Japanese family was too much and I’ve booked to stay with Yuko and Michael in
Tobitakyu, a quiet suburb of Tokyo and only 2 minutes walk from England’s match against Argentina.
The room I’ve booked is in their home, which is near the Ajinomoto stadium ( 2 minutes on foot ), Ghibli Museum ( 40 minutes by train ),
Mt. Takao ( 30 minutes by train) and Jindai-ji Temple & park ( 10 minutes by taxi ).
I intend to get a Japan Rail Card shortly, which will cover my rail trips around Japan, including down to Yokohama. I’ve also been told its only a three minute walk to the nearest train station, where I can get to Shinjuku in about 20 minutes. From what I understand, Shinjuku is one of liveliest centres in Tokyo, so I’m looking forward to exploring that.
A light breakfast is included, I’ll be out everyday so I’ll source lunch from somewhere and I hope some of the evenings I’ll be able to learn a little bit about Japanese cooking at home or within local bars/restaurants.
Another step forward on my journey!
